Kiera Sky Torpie is a writer-director from New York whose work centers on intimate female-driven stories with a darkly comedic tone.
She is the author of the short story collection “Good Asking,” which is anthologized on this site, as well as the recipient of The Quarante Club Prize for the Best Short Story by a Woman (2018) and The Dale Edmunds Prize for Best Short Story by an Undergraduate (2020).
While living in Los Angeles, she was an Associate Producer for NBC’s “Barmageddon,” an Executive Assistant at HBO Max, and held various production roles on commercials, short films, documentaries, and music videos. She also co-wrote, produced, and voice acted in the animated sketch comedy series, "Olive and Sunset," which has two seasons available on Tiktok and Vimeo.
In 2022, her dark comedy, “Sunny Makes a Scene,” about a teenager confronting her father’s overdose, premiered at the Festival Fringe in Edinburgh. In May 2024, she produced a reading of the play at the Irish Arts Center in New York City with her co-host Teresa Eyring.
She is the recipient of the US-Ireland Alliance’s Scholarship Program and holds an MA in Creative Writing from Queen’s University in Belfast.
Kiera recently directed her first narrative short film, “Ask Me Anything,” and is currently developing new scripts while working in script development and assisting BAFTA-award winning writer/director Rich Peppiatt on his second feature, LuckyChap coproduction, “Bad Bridgets.”
